Introduction

The state of things

Taken together, every year, millions die preventable deaths from infection:

From war:

And from malnutrition:

Our planet is on fire. The rent continues to rise. Our jobs seem both increasingly less fulfilling and less important.

We find ourselves more often competing with each other instead of working together to solve these issues. We do not want to continue, and simply cannot continue, to live this way.

We have worked hard to build loving homes for our families: nightly bedtime stories, warm meals, a weekly ice cream cone in summer. We try to be kind each other in our everyday interactions: we hold the door open for those rushing behind us, we tip at the coffee shop, we share our soap at the laundromat. Some days it feels like we're building a better world, but most of the time it feels like we're pushing against an ever-encroaching wall. We're told to vote for the right people, to donate to the right charities, to buy the right products. We know these things help, but it doesn't actually seem to change much, or at least it doesn't feel like enough given the scope of our problems.

A (partial) solution

Humanity deserves more: as a species who can rationally arrive at moral clarity, we should have a framework in how to take action from that moral clarity to build a better world.

I created this website as a space to write and to think about that idea, that feeling of helplessness despite a that sense of moral clarity. At its best, it'll be a place that integrates my values (and hopefully values shared by others) along with data, pointing towards solutions in the real world. Some of the pages will be more polished and, while not pointing towards specific actions we can take, will deal with these themes. Of course, some writings will be just some of my musings to help get my thoughts out there to help me process on these themes.
